When it comes to designing a product, there are three key factors that are essential for success: usability, viability, and desirability. Usability refers to how easy a product is to use, viability refers to whether or not the product can be made and sold at a profit, and desirability refers to how much people actually want the product.
While all three factors are important, it's possible for a product to be highly usable and viable, but not necessarily desirable. In other words, just because a product is easy to use and can be made and sold at a profit, doesn't mean that people will actually want to buy it. For example, consider a new type of vacuum cleaner that is incredibly easy to use, but is also incredibly expensive. While the vacuum cleaner may be highly usable and viable, it may not be desirable to most consumers because of its high price.
On the other hand, a product that is desirable but not usable or viable, will not be successful in the market. For example, a mobile phone that has all the latest features and looks very attractive but has poor battery life and is not durable, will not be successful in the market as it does not meet the usability and viability requirement.
It's important for product designers to consider all three factors when designing a new product. Usability is important for ensuring that the product is easy to use, viability is important for ensuring that the product can be made and sold at a profit, and desirability is important for ensuring that people actually want to buy the product.
To achieve success, designers must strike a balance between all three factors, which is not an easy task. The key is to conduct user research, understand the market and the target audience to design a product that meets the needs of users, and is both usable, viable and desirable.
In conclusion, Usability, Viability, and Desirability are three essential factors of product design, and striking the right balance between them is crucial for the success of a product. A product may be highly usable and viable, but if it is not desirable to consumers, it will not be successful in the market. Therefore, it is important for designers to keep all three factors in mind when designing a new product.
